NARUC/NCEP Climate Change Conference

A call for papers on “Utilities of the Future: Implications of a Carbon Constrained World” has been released by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) and the National Council on Electricity Policy (NCEP).

The conference, which will be held on December 2-4, 2009, in Dallas, Texas, will explore how the utility sector will be affected by carbon policies. Subtopics for the conference include climate goals, demographic trends, potential legislation and regulation, options for reducing GHGs, innovation, resource planning, system architecture, and business models. This list is not exhaustive and other subtopics can be suggested. NARUC and NCEP are seeking papers from utilities, consumers, academics, and others interested in the topic. Submissions are due July 1, 2009, and authors of accepted papers will be notified by July 31.

NARUC is the association of utility regulators in the United States. Founded in 1889, the association is a non-profit organization dedicated to representing the State public utility commissions. The NCEP is a venture between NARUC, the National Association of State Energy Officials, the National Conference of State Legislatures, National Association of Clean Air Agencies and the National Governors Association, and has several federal members including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, U.S. Department of Energy, and the U.S. Environment Protection Agency.
